Biden CIA Director reportedly made May trip to China to repair strained relationship

Tensions between Beijing and Washington are only rising, and now it seems the White House is scrambling to restore the broken relationship.

CIA Director William Burns quietly made a trip to China last month in a bid to mend the failing relations with the communist country. He reportedly emphasized the importance of maintaining open lines of communication.

Burns is the most senior Biden administration official to make a trip to Beijing, a trip that comes shortly after U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was denied a requested meeting with his Chinese counterpart. Lloyd expressed disappointment with China’s lack of communication.

But Burns isn’t alone in attempting to mend the relationship, as three other Biden officials met with Chinese officials over the weekend.
