Biden defends Afghanistan withdrawal, says he thinks of fallen US soldiers ‘every day’

President Joe Biden defended his chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan as a success of his presidency in a speech before the UN General Assembly yesterday.

A terror attack at the Kabul airport killed 13 US service members and hundreds of Afghans in 2021, sparking outrage at home. Despite Congressional reports saying that the mission lacked organization and went against military advice, Biden doubled down on his decision. In his speech, he said that he thinks of the lives lost “every day.”

Biden concluded by saying he is stepping down from 50 years of public service and that being president has been “the honor” of his life.
