Biden goes on defensive over Laken Riley comment during SOTU

President Joe Biden sparked widespread criticism in his State of the Union address last week after using the word “illegal” when referencing the death of Laken Riley.  And the President wasn’t wrong.

The 22-year-old nursing student was brutally killed allegedly by illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra, who, according to the Daily Wire, is also an active gang member. But in an interview with MSNBC yesterday, Biden walked back his wording, saying he regretted calling Ibarra an “illegal.”

Now the President faces intense criticism for the apology. Republican Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark.) posted on X, “Let’s get this straight: Joe Biden just apologized to an illegal alien charged with murder.”

The Republican Party also responded, saying, “Joe Biden regrets using the term ‘illegal’ to describe an illegal immigrant, but not his policies that led to the murder of Laken Riley.”
