Biden signs temporary spending bill to fund government

President Joe Biden signed a temporary spending bill last night to fund the government into January and avoid a government shutdown that would have taken place at midnight tonight.

The measure passed both the House and Senate this week with broad bipartisan support, though some Republicans opposed it for its lack of spending cuts. Congress now has until Jan. 17 to come up with a longer-term funding plan, teeing up what could be a tense fight within the House GOP.

That’s in addition to questions surrounding aid for Israel and Ukraine, for which the White House is asking a combined $106 billion in new funding.
