Biden talks withholding arms from Israel as Republicans respond

During his CNN interview yesterday, President Joe Biden expounded upon his recent decision to withhold future weapons deliveries to Israel.

When asked to clarify his position, Biden vowed to block these deliveries if Israel invades Rafah. He added that he is prepared to condition future support for America’s longtime ally on its actions in Gaza.

The announcement came as a surprise to many, including Republican leaders in Congress. House Speaker Mike Johnson (La.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) sent a letter to Biden yesterday expressing “alarm” over this decision.

The leaders wrote that “security assistance to Israel is an urgent priority that must not be delayed.” They demanded details about the decision by the end of the week. During an interview with Fox News, Johnson said Biden was “defying the will of Congress.”
