Biden, Zelenskyy sign security agreement at G7 summit

President Joe Biden and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral, 10-year security agreement yesterday at the G7 summit in Italy – meant as a step towards Ukraine’s eventual NATO membership.

The pact commits continued U.S. military and economic aid for Ukraine in its defense against Russia and eventual post-war rebuilding efforts. However, Biden stressed the deal does not include U.S. troops on the ground. It comes as G7 leaders agreed in principle to issue $50 billion in loans to Ukraine backed by interest from frozen Russian assets.
