Big northeastern storm kills 4, knocks power out for 700,000

Many New Englanders woke up without power this morning after an intense storm slammed into the Northeast yesterday.

Besides widespread power outages, the storm brought heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour. Torrential rains triggered flash floods in several states, which engulfed cars and prompted water rescues. Unfortunately, at least four people were killed.

Fifty-nine million people from Virginia to Maine were under flood watches and over 700,000 lost power. One town in New Jersey urged residents to evacuate their homes. More than 500 flights were canceled while over 4,700 were delayed.

The storm passed into Canada last night, but the effects remain. Many communities are still under a flash flood warning today.
