Blinken announces step toward post-war Gaza plan

Secretary of State Antony Blinken says steps are being taken toward the post-war governance of Gaza.

The secretary is on a mission to prevent tensions from escalating into a regional war, but he says there’s an agreement on a post-war plan for Gaza among the U.S., four Arab nations, and Turkey. That plan includes an independent Palestinian state and support to help Gaza recover.

Blinken adds that nobody believes the path forward will be easy but that all parties are still committed to making hard decisions. Israel and the Palestinians will need to agree to any long-term plans, which hasn’t happened yet.

Meanwhile, Middle East leaders are warning that anti-American sentiment is growing in the region. The Arab public blames the U.S. alongside Israel for the civilian death toll in Gaza.
