Border bill again fails to advance in Senate

The GOP Senate has voted against another attempt to resurrect the ‘Emergency National Security Appropriations Act.’

In February, Republicans shut down the original bill, which included support for Ukraine, for fear it would only give “amnesty to thousands of illegal immigrants.” However, Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) resurrected a standalone version of that bill to address the border.

Republicans were outraged by the move as they saw it as nothing but political theater. Republican Sen. Roger Marshall (Kan.) called the bill a “political camouflage.”

Even some Democrats voted against it. Sen. Alex Padilla of California said at a closed-door meeting that the bill “should not be the Democratic starting point for border security.”
