Ceasefire talks sweep through UN as Hamas meets with Egypt

The U.N. Security Council plans a long-delayed vote on a new resolution about aid to Gaza.

That vote was originally scheduled for Monday but was delayed after the U.S. threatened to veto the Arab-sponsored resolution for including a ceasefire. The resolution also did not condemn Hamas’ deadly attack on southern Israel in which the terrorist group brutalized women, killed 1,200 people, and took 240 hostages back to Gaza.

The ceasefire call has since been changed to a call for “urgent suspension of hostilities” to allow for humanitarian access. It also currently calls for the U.N. to exclusively monitor aid deliveries to Gaza that bypass Israeli inspection.

Meanwhile, the top Hamas leader was in Cairo yesterday to discuss the war in Gaza. Egypt helped mediate the weeklong ceasefire in late November that saw more than 100 hostages released. On Tuesday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the developments.
