China begins project on ‘sinicizing’ Bible

According to new reports, the Chinese Communist Party is beginning a decade-long project of rewriting the Bible.

Communist Party Chairman Xi Jinping said, “we will insist on the sinicization of Chinese religions, and provide active guidance for religion and socialism to coexist.”

Elements of the project received criticism in 2020 after a university textbook changed parts of the Gospel of John, specifically the story of the woman caught in adultery. In the CCP-version, instead of forgiving the woman of her sins, Jesus stones the woman to death.

According to reports, the project to rewrite the Bible is being tolerated by the Catholic Church in exchange for protection of Chinese Catholics.

Some Christian churches have been bulldozed, and images of Jesus have been replaced with those of President Xi.
