Chuck Schumer wants to crack down on nicotine pouches

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is raising the alarm on nicotine pouches, claiming they’re a gateway drug for teens.

Sunday, Schumer called on the FDA and Federal Trade Commission to enforce stricter regulations on Zyn nicotine pouches. He said in a news release that the company uses social media to target minors with their products.

But not everyone agrees with Schumer’s assessment. Democrat Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.) says there are bigger issues at stake than Zyn.

Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville (Ala.) says he would rather draw attention to the fentanyl crisis rather than a product that allegedly helps people quit smoking.
