Congregants Asking Former Pastor Mark Driscoll To Resign From New Post

Mark Driscoll, former pastor of Seattle-based megachurch Mars Hill Church and current pastor of The Trinity Church in Arizona, is in hot water among some of his former elders.  The pastor was once the head of one of the largest churches in the nation and in leadership with Acts 29, an American evangelical church planting network.  In 2014, Driscoll resigned from his position for allegations of various unrepentant character issues such as arrogance, bullying, and plagiarism.  Now, many of his former elders are calling him to step down from his current position.

According to a statement on Monday from nearly 40 former elders who served under Driscoll, the pastor has continued to lead with these unconfessed character issues at The Trinity Church, which Driscoll founded shortly after he left Mars Hill.  According to the report, some of The Trinity Church’s congregants are claiming the pastor has continued in the same suspect way that led to his resignation from Mars Hill. The statement reads,

We are troubled that he continues to be unrepentant despite the fact that these sins have been previously investigated, verified, and brought to his attention by his fellow Elders, prior to his abrupt resignation. Accordingly, we believe that Mark is presently unfit for serving the church in the office of pastor….We hope and pray, by the grace of God, that Mark will submit himself to a prolonged season under the Godly leadership and direction of a local church body and Elder team.
