UPDATE: The Coast Guard issued the following tweet, which confirms the search has been halted.

Saturday afternoon, the United States Coast Guard confirmed that a woman traveling aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship had fallen into the Pacific Ocean en route to Ensenada, Mexico.

In a tweet Saturday afternoon, USCG Southern California reported that a woman, whose name was not made public, had fallen from the Carnival Miracle which at the time was located about 80 miles south of the San Diego coast.

According to the tweet, the Coast Guard and Mexican Navy were combining their forces, which included the Coast Guard clipper Forrest Rednour and a Jayhawk rescue helicopter.

As of Saturday night, the woman had not been located, but the Coast Guard promised to continue the search.

“UPDATE: #USCG and partner agencies are continuing the search for the woman who reportedly went overboard on a cruise ship near Ensenada, Mexico,” a second tweet reads. “The USCGC Forrest Rednour is scheduled to continue the search throughout the night. No further updates at this time.”

According to a report from San Diego’s Fox affiliate, the woman fell from the balcony of her stateroom. No other details of the accident were available as of this writing.

Passengers aboard the Miracle have been informed of the incident. Upon being released from rescue assistance duties by the Coast Guard, the ship continued on its journey to Ensenada, a municipality located in the Mexican state of Baja California.
