Monthly migrant encounters top 300K for first time

Shocking numbers continue to come out of the southern border crisis.

U.S. border agents encountered more than 300,000 migrants at the border in December, the highest number ever recorded for a single month. ICE officials reported on Friday that the agency carried out just over 142,000 deportations at the close of the last fiscal year.

In that same time, more than 6 million illegal immigrants were released into the U.S. This comes as last week Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas met with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

There, the two countries affirmed their commitments to “regular migration,” and even discussed the “benefits” of granting some form of legal status to illegal immigrants already in the states.
