Democrats flip NY seat of ousted GOP Rep. Santos

Republicans took another blow to their razor-thin majority in the House yesterday, losing the special election to replace ousted GOP Rep. George Santos.

Former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi won New York’s 3rd Congressional District by beating Republican county lawmaker Mazi Pilip.

Once Suozzi is sworn in, the Republican majority will narrow to a mere six seats and a 219-213 advantage. And that’s not the GOP’s only problem as many are viewing last night’s election as a bellwether for November. Suozzi won by almost 8%, a massive swing from Santos’ seven-point victory just two years ago.
