Derek Chauvin, the former Minnesota police officer convicted of the murder of George Floyd, is in stable condition after being stabbed in an Arizona prison.
The stabbing was confirmed by the city’s police chief and Minnesota’s attorney general. A fellow inmate stabbed Chauvin on Friday. Authorities stated that employees were able to contain the incident and perform “life-saving measures” on Chauvin.
Those associated with the case are now condemning the attack, including the Minnesota prosecutors who brought the case against Chauvin. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara likewise condemned the incident and shared how it’s bringing up painful memories of 2020.
The attack came just days after the Supreme Court rejected Chauvin’s appeal of his state second-degree murder conviction.
