The Justice Department is receiving blowback over its decision to release a letter written by Trump’s would-be assassin, who offered a reward for someone to “complete the job.”
The DOJ released the letter in court filings yesterday. In it, the attempted assassin, Ryan Routh, said “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you.” He then offers “$150,000 to whomever can complete the job.” The letter was discovered in a box of ammunition Routh sent to an unnamed witness months ago.
Donald Trump Jr. says by releasing the letter, the DOJ has put his father’s life in more danger. Trump Jr. went so far as to accuse the DOJ of posting a bounty on the former president. Likewise, former Trump Attorney General Bill Barr slammed the move, calling it a “rash decision” that “served no purpose other than to risk inciting further violence.”
CNN legal analyst Elie Honig also shares such an opinion.
