Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter has not minced words in the last several weeks as he has taken to a social media to speak out against the widespread evils committed by Communist China and its dictator Xi Jingping. Several weeks ago, Kanter directly criticized the Chinese leader for the human rights abuses perpetrated against Uyghur Muslims in the region, calling him a “dictator.”

Later, Kanter called out LA Lakers star LeBron James for James’ apparent hypocrisy, speaking out vehemently for racial justice in America but staying silent about the ills done at the hands of Communist China.

On Monday, Kanter backed his words with a grandiose symbolic act when he became a U.S. citizen on Monday. As part of his continued campaign to fight for the freedom of those under harsh rule in China, the Celtic center announced he was legally changing his last name to “Freedom.” He will now be known as Enes Kanter Freedom.

Kanter spoke last week about his plight as one of the few celebrities who is consistently speaking out against the evils of Communist China. He said,

There’s so many athletes, so many actors, so many singers and rappers out there. They’re scared to say a word because they care too much about their money – the endorsement deals, what the teams they play for say. They should know one thing: It should be morals and principles over money. It shouldn’t be the opposite way…So many people care too much about the business side of it. But to me, human rights are way more important than anything you offer me.
