European nations announce recognition of Palestine; US supports 2-state solution

More European countries are officially recognizing Palestine as a state.

Ireland, Norway, and Spain announced yesterday that they recognize the territory as an independent state.

Ireland and Spain said the decision was not against Israel or in support of Hamas and that they wanted to advocate for peace. But what this really means is a two-state solution. Hamas and Palestine welcomed the European support. Israel signaled strong disapproval, saying this will lead to more instability in the region.

The Jewish nation has since withdrawn its ambassadors from the three countries.

The US responded that while America does not approve of a unilateral recognition of Palestine, President Joe Biden has been in favor of a two-state solution as well.
