Exit polling shows immigration remains top priority

CBS exit polling from Virginia and North Carolina shows immigration remains voters’ top concern, beating out the economy at No. 2 and followed by abortion and foreign policy.

The results mirror recent national polling. Last week, a Gallup poll showed 28% of Americans say immigration is the most important issue this election cycle – an 8% increase from the month before.

It’s a good sign for Donald Trump, who has made immigration a central issue for his campaign. But it’s not all good news for the former president.

Those same exit polls show more than a third of Republican voters saying Trump would not be fit for office if convicted of a crime this year. For the Trump campaign, those results are made all the more troubling by a new poll from Florida Atlantic University that shows one in seven Republicans saying they don’t plan on voting for Trump this November.
