Extended truce results in more hostage exchanges

by ian

Hamas released 11 more hostages yesterday in exchange for 33 Palestinian prisoners.

The White House welcomed the news that both sides agreed to a two-day extension of the ceasefire through Wednesday, saying President Joe Biden has been “deeply engaged” in the negotiations. So far, Hamas has released 70 hostages, but up to 175 are still being held captive.

Israel has said it would extend the truce one day for every 10 hostages released. But the chances of further extensions likely diminished after Israel accused Hamas today of violating the ceasefire deal. Israeli leadership says Hamas set off explosives and fired at Israeli troops resulting in minor injuries.

There appear to be no plans to call off the ceasefire at this time.
