FBI’s evidence against Hunter Biden enough to bring charges

The FBI appears to have submitted what it considers evidence sufficient to warrant charges of some description against Hunter Biden, a leaked report revealed Thursday.

As first reported by the Washington Post, and confirmed by other outlets including Fox News and CBS, the report contains evidence investigators say links Biden to potential tax crimes and presenting falsified information when purchasing a firearm.

The charges that could potentially lead to legal action, may, however, be the least outlandish of the questionable acts that Hunter Biden has been accused of, including peddling influence with his father for gain, shady foreign business dealings, transporting prostitutes across state lines, and illicit drug use.

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, however, will be the person who ultimately decides if a criminal prosecution is launched against Biden, who has been the focus of a federal investigation for four years.

Weiss, who has not publicly commented on the news, is an interesting figure who, on paper, appears a centrist.

Serving in a stronghold state for President Joe Biden, Weiss ascended to his position with the endorsement of two Democratic senators, Delaware’s Chris Coons and Tom Carper, as well as the appointment of former President Donald Trump.

Last month a group of senators sent a letter to Merrick Garland asking that they give Weiss designation as special counsel as he investigates the charges against Hunter Biden due to the political nature of the investigation. The senators noted that there were 150 Suspicious Activity Reports related to Hunter’s bank accounts at the time.

An as-yet-unknown source from within the FBI leaked that the agency had submitted information from both the bureau and the IRS.

Chris Clark, one of Biden’s attorneys, expended much effort damning the leak, which he described as a felony.

“Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony,” Clark told Fox News. “We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors.”

In a statement shared with both CBS and Fox, Clark said, “As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense. That is the job of the prosecutors.”

Any attempt to predict what comes next would be purely speculative. The president’s son might face any number of charges, a plea deal, or no charges at all.

At issue will be Biden’s tax filings and potentially his foreign business and lobbying dealings. Additionally, there is a chance Biden could be charged with providing false information on an application for a gun.

Fox News, citing a person familiar with a 2018 police report, reported that Biden is believed to have written on the application that he was not “an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance.”

It would be a matter for a court to decide if that response rose to the level of lying on an application.
