FDA Approves Genetically Engineered Pigs For Food And Medical Uses

The line of pigs are called GalSafe pigs and they were developed by biotechnology company Revivicor. According to the press release, the IGA is “intended to eliminate alpha-gal sugar on the surface of the pigs’ cells. People with Alpha-gal syndrome … may have mild to severe allergic reactions to alpha-gal sugar found in red meat….”
