Federal judge puts Biden’s Title IX changes on hold in four states

The Biden administration just saw a major setback to its efforts to expand Title IX.

Yesterday, a federal judge temporarily blocked Biden’s plan to expand Title IX to include protection for gender identity and sexual orientation. Yesterday’s ruling specifically applies to Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana and Idaho – all of which are suing the federal government – and comes just days after a federal judge in Texas blocked similar guidelines.

The Education Department announced the new rules in April, making it discriminatory for a school to “misgender” a transgender student and bar them from the bathroom of their choice. A number of states, students and legal groups filed lawsuits soon after, with some states saying they would ignore the changes altogether.

The new rules are now blocked in those four states pending future litigation.
