Female athletes sue NCAA over transgender policies

The NCAA has a major lawsuit on its hands.

Yesterday, women’s rights advocate Riley Gaines announced she’s suing the NCAA, the largest collegiate athletics organization in the country, for allegedly violating Title IX by allowing biological men to compete against women.

Gaines, who notably lost to transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in the 2022 NCAA Championships, is filing the suit alongside the Independent Council on Women’s Sports. She’s also joined by 15 other college athletes who, in her words, “have lost out on titles, records, & roster spots to men posing as women.”

The NCAA released a statement saying it will not comment on lawsuits, but that it will “continue to promote Title IX, make unprecedented investments in women’s sports, and ensure fair competition in all NCAA championships.”
