FISA bill blocked, creates turmoil for House Republicans

Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act was blocked by Republicans last night.

According to The Hill, 19 Republicans joined Democrats to prevent the measure from advancing in a 228-193 vote. This blocked the renewal of warrantless spying on the American people, which former President Donald Trump had strongly opposed.

At the same time, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said that the GOP cannot let section 702 of FISA expire. He said, “It’s too important for national security,” something he believes the GOP understands.

He added that Republicans will “regroup and reformulate another plan” to keep FISA alive.
