Florida heartbeat law goes into effect

In Florida, the six-week abortion ban went into effect yesterday.

Vice President Kamala Harris responded to the law during her campaign stop in Jacksonville by saying that this is a direct result of three Trump-appointed U.S. Supreme Court justices who voted in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. She said, “Extremists have proposed and passed laws that criminalize doctors and punish women.”

She also claimed that pro-life laws will reject abortions even in cases of rape or incest, which is not true in Florida. The state has made exceptions for rape and incest up until 15 weeks of pregnancy, while it also made an exception if the mother’s life is in danger.

At the same time, Harris refused to say whether she would place a limit on abortions should Roe v. Wade be reinstated.
