Google apologizes for ‘woke ’AI chatbot

Google is apologizing for what many are calling its “woke” AI program. This week, social media was flooded with images of black Vikings, ethnically diverse founding fathers, and female Popes.

They were all created by Google’s new AI chatbot Gemini, which appears to prioritize diversity over historical accuracy. For example, one user asked it to make an image of a “medieval king of England.” It then generated pictures of a black female and a Middle Eastern man.

Gemini appears to have a bias against white people in general, refusing one user’s request to depict a white family while at the same time gladly creating images of black families. Google says it’s aware of the problem and has stopped the chatbot from creating pictures of people altogether while it works on a fix.

One senior Google official told the New York Post, “Gemini’s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing because people around the world use it. But it’s missing the mark here.”
