GOP Sens. demand ALA investigation for trying to censor Kirk Cameron

“Blatant discrimination” – that’s what Republican lawmakers are calling the American Library Association’s (ALA) efforts to stop a reading event by Christian actor Kirk Cameron.

This year, Cameron has drawn hundreds and sometimes thousands to his faith-based story times at public libraries. On Aug. 5, Cameron plans to hold a nationwide event; that is unless the ALA gets its way.

During its global conference last month, the association openly discussed ways to throttle Cameron’s event.

On Friday, a group of senators led by Florida Republican Marco Rubio sent a letter to the director of the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services demanding to know if tax dollars were being used to silence Cameron. The letter accused ALA of violating the First Amendment, while at the same time advocating for “Drag Queen Story Hour.”

They recommend pausing current funding for the time being.
