Haitian gangs kill 12 in suburbs as political council remains silent

by ian

One week after Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced his resignation, which is what the gangs called for, the violence is only getting worse.

Gangs attacked and looted two affluent suburbs of the nation’s capital early Monday morning, killing at least a dozen. On the same day, four power stations in the capital were destroyed. Entire areas of Port-au-Prince are now without power as a result.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that a political transitional council was moving forward to secure control of the nation again.

But analyst Jake Johnston of the Center for Economic and Policy Research says the process needs more transparency, or Haitians may again reject the leadership put in place.
