Hamas says it will enter truce for 2-state solution

Hamas is offering a new ceasefire deal, though Israel is certain to reject its steep conditions.

A top Hamas official tells the AP they are willing to agree to a five-year truce with Israel in exchange for an independent Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders. Israel will certainly reject both parts of the offer, as it refuses to give up its goal of destroying Hamas and has repeatedly denounced calls for a Palestinian state.

Israeli officials have so far declined to comment on Hamas’ offer, apart from saying Israel will achieve its goals in Gaza.
