Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden and former President Trump expressed their views on the shooting in Georgia, with the Democratic duo using it as an opportunity to promote their gun violence policies.
President Biden expressed his sympathies for the school shooting victims in a White House statement yesterday while adding that the “gun violence epidemic” is a “personal” issue for him. He continued by saying,
It’s why I signed into law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act–the most meaningful gun safety bill in decades–and have announced dozens of gun safety executive actions.
Harris was on the campaign trail in New Hampshire when she went off script to address the tragedy. She said back in her day in California, she only had to do earthquake and fire drills. But kids now have to go through active shooter training.
She added, “This is one of the many issues that’s at stake in this election.”
Trump, who had personal experience being shot at, took a different approach. He wrote on Truth Social, “Our hearts are with the victims and loved ones of those affected by the tragic event in Winder, GA.” He then called the shooter “a sick and deranged monster.”
