Kamala Harris is taking a victory lap. Yesterday, her campaign posted most of Tuesday night’s debate on X, saying “Our newest ad just dropped.”
The video cuts off Donald Trump’s closing statement, replacing it with a photo of the vice president, who says, “I approve this message.”
Harris has reason to celebrate, as most polls agree that she won the debate. CNN’s flash poll shows that 63% of voters said she won on Tuesday, compared to 37% who said the same about Trump. Chris Wallace, who hosted the first debate between Trump and Biden in 2020, called it a “devastating” night for Donald Trump.
It’s expected Harris will see some sort of bump in the polls. But analysts say the race is far from over. CNN’s Harry Enten notes that first-time debate winners don’t always go on to win the election.
There’s some evidence that this could be the case this year as well. Despite voters largely agreeing that Harris won the debate, they are now less likely to trust her with the economy than before.
