Harris campaign says Walz ‘misspoke’ about military service

Kamala Harris’s campaign is trying to clean up a controversy surrounding her running mate’s military record.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who served for decades in the National Guard, is facing intense criticism for past comments suggesting he served in war, despite never being deployed to a combat zone. A resurfaced video of Walz in 2018 has prompted attacks from Trump’s running mate JD Vance, who served four years in the Marines.

The Harris campaign has since issued a statement saying Walz “misspoke” about his military record.

Walz is also facing scrutiny for retiring from the military to run for Congress in 2005 just two months before his unit received deployment orders for Iraq.

Some former members of Walz’s unit have since accused him of retiring early to dodge the war.
