Harris picks Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for VP

by ian

Kamala Harris this morning announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 Presidential Election.

The announcement came as a surprise to many political analysts, who widely believed Harris would pick the more moderate Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. By picking Walz, Harris appears to be shoring up her progressive base with an ideologically consistent ticket, similar to Donald Trump’s pick of JD Vance.

Walz began his political career as a moderate, but over time the two-term governor and former congressman has pivoted more and more to the left.

Already Republicans, chief among them Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, are attacking Walz for his left-wing record, especially his handling of the George Floyd riots that swept Minneapolis in the summer of 2020.

The Trump campaign also released a statement calling Walz a “dangerously liberal extremist.”
