Harvard President Claudine Gay resigns

Embattled Harvard President Claudine Gay resigned yesterday. Her announcement came amid allegations of plagiarism as well as criticism over her refusal to condemn antisemitism on campus.

Gay’s failure to confirm that calls for genocide against Jewish students would constitute a violation of university policy caused several major donors to pause their donations. Last month, UPenn President Liz Magill also resigned after making similar comments. Gay was also hit with dozens of plagiarism allegations, dating back decades.

Gay claims her critics were fueled by “racial animus.” She leaves with the shortest tenure of any Harvard president, having only held the position since July. But that doesn’t mean she’s out of a job.

According to the New York Post, Gay is still expected to remain a faculty member and earn about $900,000 a year.
