Americans across the Midwest and Northeast are trying their best to beat the heat.

Roughly 80 million Americans are under some sort of heat advisory, with several cities experiencing record-breaking temperatures. Most areas will see temperatures in the 90s, but experts say some places could get even hotter. Temperatures are expected to peak this weekend but will stay high into next week.

In the West, wildfires continue to ravage parts of California and New Mexico. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate. In New Mexico, at least one person has died.
