House passes bill requiring deportation for illegal immigrants that assault officers

Illegal Immigrants found guilty of assaulting police officers could be deported under a new law.

It’s called the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act. House lawmakers passed it yesterday 265 to 148, with every “No” vote coming from Democrats. The bill was introduced by New Jersey Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew a few months ago.

In March, an illegal immigrant crashed his car into a state trooper in Washington, killing him as a result. Van Drew says allowing such people to remain in the country “shows zero respect for our rule of law or our institutions.”

The bill faces an uncertain future in the Senate, where Democrats might not bring it to a vote. And, even if the bill passes the upper chamber, President Joe Biden would need to also sign off on the bill becoming a law.
