House passes controversial TikTok bill

Earlier today, the House passed its controversial TikTok bill, which would ban the popular social media app unless it breaks ties with its Chinese-based parent company, Bytedance. The bill passed 352 to 65, with 15 Republicans voting against it – including Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, who says the bill’s language is too broad.

But Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher (Wisc.) refuted this claim, saying Congress defines foreign adversaries, and it does not violate the First Amendment.

China warns the law will “come back to bite the United States” if it eventually passes in the Senate.
