House passes new sanctions on Iran

The House passed a batch of three new sanctions against Iran meant to punish that nation for attacking Israel.

They include a measure to end tax-exempt status for nonprofits that support terrorism and another that stops Iran’s government from using America’s financial system. They will also expand sanctions on Chinese companies that do business with Iranian oil and petroleum products.

The bills were fast-tracked under suspension of the normal rules with just a handful of lawmakers in opposition.

It comes as the Biden administration has been forced to defend itself for easing certain sanctions on Iran, a move the White House says was strictly for humanitarian purposes.
