House sends Mayorkas articles of impeachment to Senate

The House sent the impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate today.

Mayorkas is accused of a “willful and systematic refusal to comply with the law.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is expected to promptly dismiss those charges. He said last week that Democrats are “sticking with their plan,” prompting backlash from Republicans in both chambers of Congress, who say that a dismissal without trial is unprecedented in U.S. history.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said earlier today that a dismissal would be “unconscionable” and “unconstitutional.”

Republican senators are pressuring Schumer by saying he’s too scared to let Americans hear evidence that could sway them to vote for Trump in November.  The Senate is expected to swear in jurors on Wednesday.
