IBA addresses Olympic gender controversy

Many fans remain outraged at the IOC for allowing two biological males to compete in women’s boxing – those being Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu‑ting of Taiwan.

Chris Roberts, CEO of the International Boxing Association, held a press conference this week to address the controversy. There he explained how both fighters failed gender tests in 2023 to compete in the association’s women’s competition. Those findings were reiterated by the former chair of the IBA Medical Committee as well.

Despite the IBA’s findings, the Olympic officials are standing by their decision to let Khelif and Yu‑ting compete. Both of them made it to the semi-finals, with Khelif advancing to fight in the gold-medal match this Friday.
