ICC seeks arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for leaders of both Hamas and Israel.

He said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense chief “bear criminal responsibility” for alleged war crimes in Gaza. He also laid out a list of crimes committed by Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar and two other Hamas leaders.

The announcement was widely condemned by Israeli officials. Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz, who is also Netanyahu’s chief political rival, said, “Drawing parallels between the leaders of a democratic country . . . to leaders of a blood-thirsty terror organization is a deep distortion of justice and blatant moral bankruptcy.”
