Immigration and Customs Enforcement is missing thousands of migrant children who were originally unaccompanied by an adult.
The internal watchdog group for the Department of Homeland Security warned Congress that more than 32,000 children have been lost in the past five years.
According to a report obtained by ABC News, over 448,000 children have been moved from ICE custody to shelter or foster homes in that time. That means a staggering 7% of these children have been lost.
Inspector Joseph Cuffari wrote that ICE cannot guarantee that the missing minors “are safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor.”
