Illinois’ election board ruled unanimously this week to keep former President Donald Trump on the primary ballot even as a number of states try to remove him.
Five Illinois voters recently filed an objection to Trump’s eligibility based on the insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment. Yesterday, the board ruled 8-0 that it did not have jurisdiction over Trump’s eligibility, even though some members believe he is guilty of insurrection.
Their decision comes a week before the question is taken up by the Supreme Court. Should the court rule against Trump, it could have a major impact on the election as dozens of lawsuits have been filed across the country to remove him from the ballot.
