Iran accused of targeting Trump campaign

Iran is accelerating a propaganda effort targeting former President Donald Trump’s election campaign.

According to the New York Times on Wednesday, Iran’s disinformation strategy is more varied and ambitious this year than in previous election seasons. It relies on social media accounts to spread false narratives and threats.

However, they’ve also built elaborate news websites to give the reports a legitimate appearance. The efforts also saw Iranian-linked hackers compromise the email account of Trump advisor Roger Stone this summer.

Attorney General Merrick Garland similarly accused Iran of brazen electoral interference on Wednesday. He went on to say that Iranian-linked hackers have targeted campaign aides in both parties. He pledged to be “relentlessly aggressive” in counteracting the malignant foreign influence.
