Iran-backed militants renew attacks on American bases

American bases are under attack in the Middle East again. CENTCOM says US forces shot down two drones in Iraq yesterday.

Less than 24 hours earlier, five rockets were fired toward a US base in Syria. No casualties were reported in either case. The attacks marked the first known strikes on U.S. bases in months.

Iranian-backed groups in Iraq began attacking American bases in mid-October. Those attacks temporarily stopped in late January when the US launched retaliatory strikes in response to the deaths of three American soldiers in Iraq.

The US currently has about 2,500 troops stationed in Iraq and another 900 in Eastern Syria.
