Hackers with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are now targeting key technology used in the U.S.
On Nov. 22, the Iranian hacking group identified as “CyberAv3ngers” declared that all Israeli-made technology is a legal target. The FBI, other federal agencies, and the Israeli cyber arm are warning that the group is now targeting programmable logic controllers made in Israel.
The controllers monitor and automate systems while allowing workers to have remote access. In the U.S., they’re most commonly used in water and wastewater systems, but they can also be found in the energy, food, and healthcare sectors.
The advisory states that victims already span multiple U.S. states. Groups using Israeli controllers are advised to tighten login security and to use firewalls or private networks for remote access.
