Israel, Hamas swap hostages sixth time before extending ceasefire

Israel and Hamas agreed to extend a temporary ceasefire for a seventh day, only minutes before it was set to expire last night.

At least two more hostages have been released since then. Ahead of the extension, Hamas released 10 Israeli citizens, including a 49-year-old American with dual citizenship, along with four Thai nationals. The truce has resulted in the return of 70 Israelis in exchange for the release of 210 Palestinian prisoners from Israel. One-hundred-sixty-one hostages remain in trapped Gaza.

Despite the latest extension, Israel continues to say the pause is only temporary and that the war will only end once Hamas is destroyed.
